You have a deep seeded appreciation for customer service and recognize serving the public and coworkers alike as a core value.If this sounds like you, consider a career with the City of Olathe. -Our Facility Maintenance Team is currently hiring a Facility Maintenance Technician II. - Come join a team that supports, maintains, and repairs over 27 buildings, 126 housing units, 1 parking garage, 38 parks with shelters, 8 parks with restroom facilities, 30 trails and bike lanes, and 4 swimming pools throughout the City of Olathe. -About the RoleThis position will be based out of the Olathe Community Center but will work with the Facility Maintenance Team to perform work at any City facility needed. -The person in this role is responsible for helping to keep the Olathe Community Center looking and functioning properly so that Olathe residents feel welcomed and comfortable in this state-of-the-art facility. -Among other things, the person in this role will be responsible for responding to work orders, making repairs, performing preventative maintenance, operating a variety of equipment, responding to emergency situations, documenting and communicating, participating in an on-call schedule, and other tasks in support of overall building maintenance and repair. -A typical day could include responding to a water leak, checking a rooftop for wind damage, performing preventative maintenance on an HVAC system, changing light bulbs, painting an office, setting up for an event, monitoring indoor pool water quality, and helping a fellow team member at another City facility.Who Should Apply?Do you like hands-on work that includes a variety of tasks? -Do you have previous experience in building maintenance and repair? - Are you able to work independently and prioritize your work, while contributing to a highly effective team? - Are you available to work Sunday through Thursday?Yes? - Keep reading. - If you're qualified to do the work listed below, please apply. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform construction, operation, repair, and maintenance on assigned systems. -
  • Operate a variety of equipment including trucks, hand tools, power tools, electronic test meters, pumps, and various other vehicles and equipment.
  • Participate in housekeeping duties and building maintenance.
  • Perform on-call duties and overtime and other duties as required.
  • Performs electrical, plumbing, HVAC, lock-smithing, and construction related tasks on various City facilities and equipment. -
  • Performs periodic preventative maintenance checks on facility equipment, to include HVAC equipment, and perform scheduled preventative maintenance.
  • Respond to security/fire alarm and emergency situations.
  • Enters data and accounts for labor time within work order management software.
  • Uses Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel software to communicate and document.
  • Adhere to City policies and ordinances in the completion of their responsibilities.
  • Perform procedures within Excel, Word, Project Microsoft, and operational software packages.
  • Estimate time, materials and equipment required for jobs assigned and requisition materials as needed. -Perform cost benefit analysis of outsourcing versus in-housing of projects. -This work will require you to:
    • Wear provided personal protective equipment whenever required
    • Operate varied hand/power tools and construction equipment
    • Work in outside weather conditions
    • Be exposed to wet, cold, and/or humid conditions -
    • Regularly stand, stoop, bend, walk, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist, reach, and grasp
    • Work on uneven or slick surfaces
    • Reach or lift above the shoulder and below the knee
    • Lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and objects weighing up to 100 lbs
    • Perform work at heights including on ladders, roofs, in man-lifts, or scaffolding
    • Climb and descend ladders
    • Be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, or human waste Experience & Education Experience: - Six years of increasingly responsible experience in general construction and facility maintenance.Education: - -High school diploma or equivalent.License or Certification: - -
      • Must have a valid drivers license with a favorable driving record. -
      • Required to obtain Aquatic Facilities Operator (AFO) License or Certified Pool Operators Certificate within six months of hire date. -
      • Certification or License in one or more of the following trade skills is preferred: - Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical, Carpentry or General Construction.
