About This Role:





K-State Olathe is looking to fill a Research Associate position. This position will perform comparative pharmacokinetics modeling using data from the Food Animal Residue Avoidance Databank(FARAD) and relevant physiological and pathophysiology data.

The Research Associate will perform research in Multilevel Nonlinear Mixed-Effects Modeling and Machine Learning for Prediction applied to human food safety. As part of the 1DATA Consortium, a joint research collaboration between K-State Olathe in Olathe KS, and the College of Veterinary Medicine at the North Carolina State University (NCSU), in Raleigh, NC, the Research Associate will perform comparative pharmacokinetics modeling using data from the Food Animal Residue Avoidance Databank (FARAD) and relevant physiological and pathophysiology data in an intellectually vibrant environment with ample mentorship.

The primary aim of this joint research collaboration between K-State and NCSU is to better understand the many factors that influence the pharma-cometrics of drugs and environmental contaminants across multiple species, and especially food animal species, as these estimates can significantly impact the occurrence of drug residues in our nation's food and ultimately of food safety importance.

BASIC JOB FUNCTIONS:



  • To develop and perform comparative PK modeling using data FARAD and relevant physiological and pathophysiology data.

  • To develop and perform research in Multilevel Nonlinear Mixed-using Machine Learning.

  • To develop tools that allow people to use models for different extra-label drug use.



    WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

    The Research Associate reports to the co-leaders of 1Data. This is joint research collaboration between the College of Veterinary Medicine at the North Carolina State University (NCSU), in Raleigh, NC, and K-State Olathe in Olathe KS; therefore, the successful applicant is expected to rotate between both research labs during the 2-3-year project period.This position will require working in a team environment. Our research Group across both Universities provides a stimulating modeling environment by encouraging active collaborations with scientists trained in biostatistics, computational biology,bioinformatics, and pharmacology/toxicology.

    What You'll Need to Succeed:





    Minimum Qualifications:



    • Master's degree and a minimum of two years of relevant experience.



      Preferred Qualifications:



      • Degree in data science, biomedical in data science, biomedical sciences, statistics and mathematics, computer science, or engineering.

      • Intellectually curious researcher at an early stage of their scholarly career.

      • Demonstrated capacity for independent work and will be expected to engage with researchers and faculty and participate in activities convened by our Initiative.

      • Experience with applications in mathematical mixed-effects modeling, artificial intelligence, and Monte Carlo Simulation techniques.

      • Research or teaching experience in at least one of the following core areas:



        • Research design and data analysis in machine learning, applied statistics, mathematical modeling

        • Deep learning and network analysis

        • Data engineering, storage, retrieval

        • Visualizing and communicating data

        • Experiments and causal inference

        • Large-scale data mining and analysis

        • Applied regression and time series analysis





        • High level of proficiency in scripting, mathematical modeling, code-based analysis, interpreted analysis, or big data analysis

        • Basic knowledge of statistics as well as the ability to understand the application of mathematical models that represent and facilitate the analysis of complex systems would be beneficial.

        • Programming experience in C++, C#, MATLAB, Python, SAS, R, or equivalent is preferred.

        • Self-motivation, attention to detail, persistence, diligence, and the ability to work in a distributed team are essential attributes for the individual undertaking this position.

        • Familiarity with animal and human data structures would be beneficial.
