Job Description:

Job Summary: We welcome you to join the Language Access Team as a Sign Language Interpreter. You will be responsible for providing equal access to deaf/hard of hearing patients and their families/significant others by interpreting in American Sign Language, transliterating English or matching the mode of communication best understood by the patient. Minimum Requirements:

  • 2 Year / Associate Degree OR 5 years documented interpreting experience in lieu of degree. Minimum
  • 4 Year / Bachelors Degree Preferred
  • 1 - 3 Years Documented Medical Interpreting experience. Minimum
  • Fluency in English, American Sign Language, and Coded English (Minimum proficiency)
  • Auditory Perception. Must be able to hear instructions from patients, medical staff, and other involved individuals. (Minimum proficiency)
  • Medical Terminology course completed or able to complete within 6 months of hire. (Preferred proficiency)
  • None Certification - Certification through Kansas Quality Assurance Screening at Level 4 (Interpreting) and Level 4 (Transliterating) or above, or Missouri Certification - Advanced Level or above, or National Interpreter Certification through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Minimum Key Responsibilities:
    • Recognizes Language Access Services role in the continuum of patient care.
    • Maintains strict standard of confidentiality, sharing patient/interpreting related information on an "as needed" basis only.
    • Respects patient's privacy during examinations and procedures by being aware of positioning and using appropriate eye contact.
    • Maintains accurate, up-to-date records and documents provision of services as specified in departmental policy.
    • Ensures continuity of care by giving appropriate, detailed SBAR to next shift and/or team members.
    • Ensures the provision of consistent, quality services by pro actively supporting team members, covering other staff members duties when necessary and agreeing to work outside scheduled hours. Benefit Highlights:
