Job Description:
Zurich is currently looking for a Property & Casualty Retail
Underwriting Intern to work out of our Direct Markets Business in
our Overland Park, KS office. Direct Markets offers a wide range of
solutions designed to meet the changing risks and profitability
needs of franchise auto, motorcycle, Powersports, and RV
dealerships through our direct sales force and select agents. Our
business was started by a group of auto dealers in 1922, and our
customers have been closely involved in developing our products for
more than 90 years. We provide the Unicover VII policy, which is a
copywritten package garage policy, to all of our target market
risks. We also offer other brokered products through our in-house
agency. Our F&I products are sold to retail customers of auto
and motorcycle dealers. This intern will work under immediate
supervision and perform requested tasks alongside underwriting
professionals who perform these roles. Generally, this position is
part of a summer program with an assigned mentor. What this
opportunity offers:
- Compare property information on the current policy with
information on value 360 reports and identify discrepancies
- Review historical loss/premium information
- Renewal Book of Business
- Strategic growth initiatives
- LP process enhancements including value proposition
improvements.
- Preparing for policy system innovations.
- Become familiar with using CYA reports, identifying loss
trends, and how to help reshape that line of business
- Learn basic property underwriting fundamentals as well as
property exposures and guidelines
- Understanding our overall underwriting strategy
- Job shadow with an assigned mentor to learn key underwriting
concepts and procedures. Other development opportunities:

Qualifications:
- Actively pursuing a bachelor's degree from an accredited
college
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor's program and will be enrolled
in the fall of 2023
- Two or more years of college coursework (should be a rising
Junior or Senior)
- Be legally eligible to work in the U.S indefinitely Preferred
Qualifications:
- Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Insurance,
Finance, Mathematics, Economics, or related Business field
- Minimum cumulative current grade point average of 3.0 (current
could mean last semester GPA)
- Microsoft Suite of products including TEAMs
- Business Objects Enterprise
- Business Unit specific tools used in Underwriting and rating
policies
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Problem-solving skills in a customer-focused environment
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Strong interest in the insurance industry As a condition of
