Job Description:

Job Summary: The Health Information Access Specialist plans, organizes, and carries out all activities necessary to meet the medical information and education needs of physicians, nurses, allied health providers, employees, patients, and the community regarding medical topics, current research, support for evidence based practices, reference, new developments and standards of practice and is a resource for patients, health care professionals, and individuals in the community for health related information and educational materials. He/She will be comfortable with computer operations and online resources. He/She will maintain system-wide electronic resources, reference management system and train end-users. He/She will proactively disseminate pertinent information to customers. Excellent communication and customer service skills are a prerequisite. Minimum Requirements: --- Graduate Degree Masters in Library Science (MLS) from an American Library Association Accredited school-- --- Organizational, Verbal Communication - strong written and verbal communication skills, Customer Relations, Ability to multi-task and prioritize, Microsoft Office, Capable of providing formal and informal teaching to adult learners and Knowledge of on-line and CD-ROM searching of medical or health-related topics including databases such as Medline and Cinahl Key Responsibilities: --- Customer Services: 1. Establishes and maintains a good rapport and professional working relationship with customers by using excellent listening and articulation skills including tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude. 2. Follows through on commitments made to customers while maintaining organizational and customer confidentiality. 3. Demonstrates the ability to handle difficult and/or stressful situations appropriately. --- Consistently demonstrates cost savings activities: Minimize supply waste. Demonstrates productive use of time. Offers suggestions for cost savings. --- Demonstrates knowledge of departmental information by: regularly attending staff meetings, reading email information, attending departmental in-service offerings, reading communication books, reviewing available literature and resource material. --- Able to respond to emergent/urgent situations in an effective manner and willing to cross-train to other areas / departments. --- Demonstrates appropriate and effective conflict resolution skills. Step 1: addresses issues with individuals involved in a courteous and professional manner Step 2: refers issues to appropriate Coordinator/Manager/Director, as necessary.
