Description The City of Olathe delivers smart, connected,

efficient and sustainable. As a Facilities Project Manager (CE III)
you will be a key member managing the design and construction of
projects including planning, design, construction and close-out of
City building and remodel/rehabilitation projects. Includes
determination of construction delivery method; participation in
consultant and contractor selection; contract development and
negotiations; project programming, planning and design; budget
development and management; and schedule development and
management. Reviews and prepare plans, specifications, and
contracts; and provides technical support to the Facilities group.
- Manage the design and construction of projects involving areas
of City buildings and other infrastructure improvements.
- Review and approve plans and specifications, designs, technical
documents and reports ensuring compliance with city technical
specifications, design guidelines and applicable codes and
- Exercise professional judgment in accordance with currently
accepted practices of civil engineering, mechanical engineering,
architecture, landscape architecture and appropriate laws and
- Provide assistance or oversight of construction inspectors in
the interpretation of plans and resolution of problems during
construction; review plans to ensure compliance with original plans
and specifications; and approve changes to approved plans and
- Participate in the process of selecting consultants to design
various city projects; review and manage consultant studies,
designs, plans, specifications and related items.
- Assist in the preparation and supervision of consultant and
contractor services contracts.
- Maintain constant awareness of progress and budget on assigned
projects; design and ensure compliance to approved budget and
designated time schedules for project completion.
- Participate in a variety of special engineering and
architecture studies to determine impact of various projects;
prepare technical reports as required.
- Respond to questions and concerns of staff, other departments,
consultants and the general public.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Experience & Education Experience and Education Guidelines Any
combination of experience and education that would likely provide
the required knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable. A
typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be:
Experience: Five to seven years of engineering and project
management experience, preferably with experience in a municipality
or Public Works department. A master's degree may be substituted
for experience. Education: Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from
an accredited college or university with major course work in civil
engineering, architecture, mechanical engineering, construction
management or a related field. Licenses and Certificates: Must be a
registered Professional Engineer or Architect in the State of
Kansas, or able to obtain a professional engineering or architect
license in the State of Kansas within 6 months of employment.
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Driver's License.
Supplemental Information Must successfully pass pre-employment
