Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Community Life Manager, The Community Life Coach is responsible for helping people with intellectual disabilities connect to their communities through such activities as community events / activities and volunteer opportunities. The CLC assesses skills and interests for participants, implements service plans, and facilitates the involvement within the community. The CLC assures safety in the community while securing activities that enrich the participant's life.

What we want to see from you:
Educations and/or Experience: High school diploma or G.E.D. required. Must be 18 years of age, or older. Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft office and have the ability to use electronic charting programs.
Certificates, Licenses or Registrations: Must have a valid drivers' license and a good driving record as defined by AbleLight policy. Upon hire, the CLC must successfully complete the Community Life Coach training. Clear background check as defined by regulations and policies.
Physical Demands: Ability to lift at least 50 pounds. Ability to do daily standing, bending and lifting. Must be able to stand for 8 hours at a time. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening. May be required to complete and pass a post-employment physical.

    • Identify community resources and activities pertaining to the interest and skill level of participants on their caseload.
    • Facilitate the participation of participants in typical and integrated activities (those used by the general public), events and organizations in the participant's neighborhood or local community in ways similar to others persons of the same age an interest.
    • Foster connections between participants and persons without disabilities to increase social capital.
    • Maintain electronic records including progress of goals identified on participant's person-centered plan, incidents, challenges, etc.
    • Accompany participants to activities, if needed, and facilitate involvement.
    • Communicate progress, successes, and challenges to guardians / care providers as needed.
    • Ensure personal safety of participants on caseload.
    • Provide support to maintain or enhance personal independence.
    • Provide attendant care and/ or other supports as necessary (i.e. personal care, medication assistance, etc.)
    • Support Bethesda's Mission, vision and Core Values while empowering each person to direct his or her own life choices.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.Other Competencies (skills, abilities, behaviors):
      • Ability to establish and maintain professional and cooperative relations with local businesses and agencies.
      • Interest in assisting participants to define and achieve their meaningful day goals.
      • Ability to effectively send and receive verbal and written communication using the English language.
      • Basic math skills and basic computer skills.
      • Ability and willingness to successfully complete and apply training.
      • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member.
      • Ability to keep accurate documentation.
      • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions in the absence of an immediate supervisor.
      • Must be willing to drive throughout the assigned geographic area.
      • Have the ability to work effectively and harmoniously with others.
      • Must be flexible with respect to work hours and changing condition.
      • Must be of good moral character and have an interest in the welfare of participants. Experience in working with people with developmental disabilities is preferred.
      • Must possess a commitment to the belief that all people have the right to dignity, respect, opportunity and full community inclusion.
      • Must have a philosophy that is consistent with the Mission, Vision and Core Values of the organization.
      • Must have the ability to read and understand the hand-written and printed material, including documents and contracts; must have the ability to write correspondence and required reporting.
      • Must effectively communicate with and respond to questions from medical personnel, staff, stakeholders, and general public.BLC123
