Job Description:
Job Description Job Description Positions will remain open until
filled. Early application is encouraged. Hours: Monday-Friday,
7:00am - 3:30pm Work is semi-skilled in the operation of light
equipment and a variety of tasks of a physically demanding nature.
Work assignments are detailed and subject to review by supervisors.
Summer employment with the KTA is designed not only to assist an
employee in gaining knowledge and experience, but also to complete
necessary KTA operations and projects.Learn to operate equipment
(e.g. skid steer, Z-turn mowers, and tractors). The following
guidelines will determine eligibility for summer employees: Must be
physically able to perform job duties as outlined in the job
description and pass a drug screen and physical as a condition of
employment. A summer is defined as having worked more than one
month during the period May 1 to August 31 of each year. If
previously employed by the Authority, must have a favorable
recommendation by their previous year's supervisor in order to be
re-employed. Households with multiple applicants may be limited
based on positions available and interest. Relatives and close
relationships will be subject to the guidelines in the Employment
of Relatives or Close Relationships Policy 4-7-1 in regard to
supervisory positions. Background checks will be conducted in the
first year of employment. Any exceptions to the foregoing rules
must have the express permission of the Chief Executive Officer.
Job Demands : The following are minimum demands necessary for this
job : Ability to safely lift and move repeatedly 30 pounds from
floor to overhead. Must have the ability and physical strength to
safely operate light equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, post
drivers, chain saws, post-hole diggers, jackhammers, and other
powered or hand tools. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors,
daytime and nighttime, in sometimes harsh environments. Must be
able to bend, stoop, squat, and stand for prolonged periods of time
as necessary. Must be able to climb steps, ladders, and work at
heights. Must be able to work in closed spaces. Must be willing to
learn how to identify a variety of animal and plant species. Must
be able to work effectively with other workers. Must be able and
willing to work safely and wear proper Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE) and seatbelts with all tools and equipment. Must be
able and willing to work and communicate with and help customers in
a pleasant manner. Must be able to understand and carry out oral
and written instructions and communicate with all supervisors. Must
have a valid driver's license issued by the State of Kansas.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience that are Advantageous: Mechanical
and operational knowledge of motorized equipment. Past experience
and operational knowledge with mechanized tools and equipment.
Education and Age Requirements: Must be 18 years of age or older
and have graduated from high school. Summer Employment Program -
Department Opportunities Shop Learn service, diagnose, and repair
vehicles and equipment used to support roadway operations.
Structures Learn carpentry, concrete construction, and construction
basics. Maintenance Learn roadway operations, construction support,
and traffic safety. Roadside Maintenance Learn traffic sign
creation and guardrail installation. Utilities Learn plumbing,
electrical, and HVAC fundamentals while assisting with maintenance
and repairs of facilities and infrastructure systems.
